THE ADLS ARE NOW HASTILY PREPARING FOR THEIR VETERANS CRUISE, WHICH THIS YEAR TAKES PLACE ON SUNDAY 5 SEPTEMBER. THE FLOTILLA OF LITTLE SHIPS WILL MOOR DOWNRIVER OF KINGSTON BRIDGE FOR VETERANS TO EMBARK AT 0930 FOR A 1000 DEPARTURE, TRANSITTING THROUGH EAST MOLESEY AND SUNBURY LOCKS TO MAKE AN ETA AT THE WEYBRIDGE MARINERS CLUB OF APPROXIMATELY 1300. THE VETERANS WILL BE HOSTED THERE TO LUNCH BEFORE RETURNING TO KINGSTON IN A FLEET OF PERIOD VEHICLES AT APPROXIMATELY 1530. THE EVENT IS OPEN TO ALL DUNKIRK AND D-DAY VETERANS AND THEY ARE ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT THE ORGANISER, MR IAN GILBERT, TO REGISTER THEIR INTEREST AND RESERVE A PLACE ON ONE OF THE LITTLE SHIPS FOR THIS FANTASTIC DAY ON THE RIVER THAMES. UPWARD OF 20 LITTLE SHIPS ARE EXPECTED TO TAKE PART, THEY WILL BE ASSISTED BY A TEAM OF YOUNG RATINGS FROM HMS COLLINGWOOD, AND BY THE LOCAL SEA CADETS WHO ASSIST WITH BERTHING AND SLIPPING THE LITTLE SHIPS DURING THE LOCKING PHASES OF THE TRANSIT. MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC HAVE LINED THE ROUTE IN PREVIOUS YEARS, SHOWING THEIR APPRECIATION TO THE EMBARKED VETERANS AS THEY PASS, AND IT IS HOPED THAT A LARGE PUBLIC INTEREST WILL FOLLOW THIS YEAR; WHY NOT COME DOWN TO THE THAMES AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!
